Orientation controls
- Best Fit: rotation is allowed so the optimizer can test both orientations.
- Keep Entered Orientation: each pane stays in the entered width-by-height direction.
- Match Factory Roll Direction: keeps the pane direction aligned to the roll direction for directional material workflows.
Complete and incomplete results
A roll-width result can show lower footage while still being incomplete because one or more panes do not fit. Confirm complete fit before treating a result as a viable whole-job plan. Manually excluded panes are not placed and are flagged in the planning and Film Order workflows.
Physical-roll splitting
Standard Single-Roll and Multi-Roll plans longer than 100 feet are divided into individual physical rolls. The Film Order Sheet calculates the minimum order length for each standard physical roll in 25-foot increments.
Measured area
Measured area is the sum of pane width multiplied by pane height multiplied by quantity. It describes the measured glass, not the amount of roll material that must be purchased.
Planned footage
Planned footage is the used roll length in the selected layout. It depends on roll width, pane placement, quantity, and the active orientation control.
Efficiency and waste
Planned film area is roll width multiplied by used roll length. Material efficiency compares the planned pane area with that planned film area. Waste square footage is the unused planned film area inside the used layout length, and waste percentage is that unused share of planned film area.
Oversized and manually planned panes
A pane that does not fit the selected width must be resolved by another standard width, Film on Hand roll, manual plan, or exclusion. Manually planned oversized panes remain outside the automatic placement totals and are identified for review. Excluded or manually planned panes are flagged in Film Order output so the purchaser can resolve them separately.
Verified default assumptions
The public planning workflow uses the entered pane dimensions as the cutting dimensions. It does not automatically add trim allowance, gaps between pieces, edge margins, handling allowance, miscut allowance, spare film, contingency, supplier packaging, or purchased-roll remainder. Those shop and supplier decisions remain outside the layout calculation.
Review remains required
Precision Film Systems compares and lays out the entered work. The shop still reviews fit, orientation, film direction, handling, purchasing increments, spares, site conditions, and production practicality before ordering or cutting.
Review which job changes can invalidate physical planning and how output generation responds.
